Please! Stop It With The "Real Heroes"

When Ronald Reagan pointed to the balcony during his State of the Union (SOTU) speech and started talking about a real American, the nation was enthralled. (Photo by AP)

"Wow!" we all said. "The Great Communicator at work."

When President Bush pointed up into the balcony during his SOTU speech, I suspect most Americans shared my response of:

"Who the f^$% do you think you are. Did you build a hospital in the Congo? Did you dive on the subway tracks to save a stranger? Hell no. And back when your country was calling young men to serve, you f@%#ed around in the National Guard. Geez, you've got big brass ones to think you can suck some of the credit off these folks."

And then they got to the soldier.

Now here is something for which the President can take credit. This brave young man fought off counter attacks and used himself as a human shield during a fire fight in Iraq. He was maimed and injured and awarded the Silver Star for his bravery. And lord knows he could never had done that if the President hadn't sent him to Iraq in the first place.

Bravo Mr. President. A war we can't justify, a war no one wants, a war that has alienated two-thirds of the globe is resulting in our soldiers acting heroically in order to save themselves and the lives of their comrades. That is one hell of an accomplishment Mr. President, thanks for sharing it with me.

Well said! This guy's got onions the size of bowling balls to suggest we need to throw more bodies at the problem. Yeah, that's worked so damn well so far. Sheesh....

I don't even know what to say about that. I think that it's very easy to be a critic. Goodness knows I know a lot about throwing around my opinion. I hope you will keep up your pointed barbs toward our Commander in Chief when there is a Democrat in office fucking an intern. (Unlike you, I don't see the need to use stars and pound signs in place of the swear words. If you have the balls to criticize the President every other day, then have the balls to use the word "fuck")
Besides, I think that what you are doing is calling Bush a hypocrite, in some sense, yes? Well, what is more hypocritical than an atheist using the phrase, "For Lord's sake"? If you don't believe in Him, then that phrase is the ultimate in hypocracy. Plus, it's offensive. If you would like to say something for someone's sake, why not say, "For Clinton's sake". Lord knows, you believe in him.

Ok so I have read all the blogs today. Comments?? It is not hypocritical to use the word Lord ( if you don't believe) unless you capitalize. Let's give t dude the benefit of the doubt, he may not have meant The Lord. Could have been referring to lord cheney, for instance.
As far as the pointed barbs??? This particular commander in chief makes it soooooo easy. My 86 year old mother is convinced he is " drinking again" and that is clouding his judgement. What happened to the concept of surrounding yourself with the best and the brightest?

Well, silly me! Of course the T-Dude was referring to Little Lord Fauntleroy! Why would I think otherwise?
Give me a break. That's like Clinton saying, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Most people would define sexual relations as anything that would lead to sperm on a blue Gap dress, but I guess Clinton thought otherwise...? I am guessing that the tdude was referring to Jesus Christ and he just forgot to capitalize.
